A New Strategic Environment

Blue Spoon embodies an innovative philosophy for strategy and action. We are pioneering a framework to help clients thrive in a global economic system that operates with rules we have yet to fully grasp. Society itself is transitioning to an entirely new age, one that promises to be more transformational than the Industrial Revolution at the turn of the last century and the development of agriculture in the Neolithic Age. We need new capabilities, and to change the capacities of existing ones, to succeed systemically. New tactics, new techniques, and new modes of operation will have to be designed. New management skills to integrate thinking and decision-making will have to be established.

System-level competition is our concept to catalyze this creative process. It speaks in strategic themes that apply across a spectrum of situations. It describes problems and envisions solutions in a different way. The conditions for business are evolving. The future operating environment will be characterized by uncertainty, complexity, interactivity, and rapid change. It will produce more challenges than any one person, business, or government can respond to effectively. This has two implications. The first is the importance of shaping developments proactively, of leading change rather than becoming a victim of it. The second is the importance of building collaboration that spans business models, spawns unconventional partnerships, involves multiple stakeholders, and creates different kinds of ideas.
