Strategy Design
The revolutionary new element to strategy at a system level is a change in focus, from pieces and parts to relationships and wholes. There are ever expanding dimensions of specialized assets and high technology applications -- opportunity space to create new value propositions comes from looking horizontally for new forms of organization between them. Said another way, the stuff of strategy innovation will come from changing the level of questions being asked.
Strategic imagination is limited solely by entrenched assumptions and consolidated habits of thinking from the same people looking through the same lens to come up with the same ideas. A different mode of thinking is what will close the conceptual gap between the possibilities for new markets in an interdependent global system, or decay and commoditization from clinging to an obsolete framework for strategy design.
