System-Level Competition

System-level competition is a new theory for strategy in a globally-linked, information-oriented society. This is a different approach to thinking strategically and competing based on system sensibilities. It flows from a new way of seeing the human condition.

Strategy is an activity geared to securing advantage over a competitor. That means doing things competitors can't. We assume everyone is competent with the same pieces. Everyone has access to the same information. Your adversaries learn and adapt. Better performance will now come from linking pieces into new wholes...in other words, organizing complementary business landscapes on shared marketspace. This is what we mean by ecosystem-centered market strategy.

The shape and texture of our orientation reflects a new relationship with creativity. The nature of the strategic environment has changed. The central challenge for a modern strategy is reframing mindsets to master working with complexity, the nonlinear, the chaotic. What follows here is an exploration that isolates some themes that need a rethink. Our aim is to evoke new direction.
